For a long time, I thought dildo’s only came in 2 materials – Rubber or Silicone. But very recently, I had my eyes opened to the fact they come in all shapes, sizes, colours and materials.

From your standard rubber dong to Stainless Steel anal probers. But it was the glass dildo’s that had me most intrigued. Everyone always seems to rate glass products very highly. However, there was just something about the thought of putting something made of glass inside me that put me off – what if it broke? Try explaining that one to A&E…

However, I have learned that these dildo’s are incredibly safe, hygienic and provide some of the best stimulation I have ever experienced from a dildo. My first glass dildo was bought using my Lovehoney loyalty points. The Icicle’s range of Glass dildos are some of the most stylistic and interesting toys I have added to my collection. So to start off my series of Glass reviews, we’re starting with Icicles No. 5.

First Impressions

When it arrived, I hurried to open the box. The Icicles are packaged in luxurious little gift boxes. With a cardboard flap on the front, held in place with a little magnetic clasp. When you open it up, you can see the toy nestled in a padded bed of foam through the plastic window. There is nothing extremely explicit about the packaging, and if you were so inclined (and you know your friends *really* well) they would make a gorgeous gift.

When you pull it out of it’s foam bed, the first thing you notice is the weight. This is something a little heavier than your standard rubber dong. As such, it bodes well as I’ve been told that glass and metal dildo’s with a heavier weight, provide deeper and more intense stimulation, and this is what I was most interested in trying out myself.

The blue spiral design on this particular dildo is beautiful. As it sits catching the sunlight, it’s almost like a little work of art. It seems almost a shame to keep it confined to the toy box – however I’m not in a position to start displaying cocks all over the house (although I doubt anyone would expect any less of me). As the spiral winds it’s way up the shaft, it feels bold, but smooth to the touch. This toy was going to be used anally, but I would have imagined that when used vaginally, those ridges on the shaft would probably provide incredible stimulation to ones lady parts.

How to use

One of the great things about glass, is the fact that it is extremely versatile, and you can use it with pretty much any lube you choose. I tend to prefer silicone lube when playing anally, as it’s thicker and lasts longer than water-based. I found myself home alone a few days after receiving the No. 5, and I couldn’t wait to try it out any longer. I hurried upstairs and pulled this little glass beauty out of it’s box and got myself comfortable. This particular dildo has a girth of about 4 inches, so it’s one of my smaller anal toys, so I didn’t feel the need to do too much preparation. After applying plenty of lube to myself and the dildo, I slowly inserted. The bulbous but tapered tip makes insertion really easy, and as you slowly slide the dildo in even further, the ridges on the shaft added a new dimension of pleasure.

I was a complete glass convert

This dildo has a slight curve in the shaft, meaning it was perfect for stimulating the prostate, and when this toy finally hit the spot; that’s when the real fun began.  With gentle thrusting motions, I moved the dildo in and out – the tip was gently pressing against the prostate, and the spirals were providing amazing stimulation. The added weight of the glass really helps enhance the sensations, and it really does make you feel full, but not in an unpleasant or uncomfortable way.

Eventually I pushed it all the way in, and began rocking my hips backwards and forwards with the dildo inside me. Each thrust brought another wave of pleasure coursing through my body, and I was starting to get that familiar sensation. With a little additional stimulation with my hands, I soon reached an explosive and very satisfying orgasm. I lay there for a few moments, with a smile across my face – panting and sweating profusely. It was official – I was a complete glass convert.

One of the other great reasons to go for a glass dildo, is the fact you can experiment with temperature play. Put the dildo in the fridge, or in a bowl of ice cold water for a few moments for a delightfully chilly encounter (WARNING: Do not  put it in the freezer – unless you do want it sticking to your sensitive parts!) or place in a bowl of warm water for a slightly warmer, more realistic experience.

Clean up and Maintenance

Glass is one of the most safest and hygienic toys you can have. It’s non-porous, meaning it won’t withhold odours or bodily fluids. It won’t leak harmful chemicals, which some cheaper based rubber dildo’s can. Clean up is an absolute breeze! Simply wash with warm water and some anti-bac toy cleaner, dry and put back in it’s box (or if you keep your dildo’s in a storage pouch). You could even put it in the dishwasher for that extra sparkle! Just remember to take it out again… that could be an awkward one to explain when your mum comes round for coffee…!

Summary

As far as dildo’s go, I really cannot fault this one (or any of the Icicles range so far). Not only do they provide incredible amounts of fun and pleasure, they simply looks stunning and high class too. My only negative comment would be that the boxes do take up a lot of space, so you may want to invest in some separate storage bags for these. If you have never tried a glass dildo before, you really cannot go wrong with this one. And it really does just look beautiful.
