So in case you hadn’t noticed, yes – I have a thing for glass dildo’s.
I don’t own that many dildo’s in general (not because I don’t like them, it’s just I’m quite particular) – but the ones I do have are all primarily glass. I don’t know what it is about them – is it the fact they just look gorgeous? Or is it that sometimes they make great phallic paperweights? Or could it be that they just feel so damn good? If you answered YES to all three of the previous questions – give yourself a gold star!
I added a couple more glass dildos to my collection recently (for example the No. 55) and I have enjoyed everything I have tried so far. Naturally after placing my order with Lovehoney, I was eagerly awaiting my delivery.
First Impressions
Now as you may know – I’m a total whore for packaging. And it was the packaging that made me fall in love with the Icicles range in first place – way before that first piece of cold glass had gone where no glass had gone before. So I won’t ramble on about it too much – but like always, you are presented with a tastefully designed keepsake box, which has a magnetic flap on the front. As you lift it up to have a peek at what it’s hiding, you’ll see the No. 57 behind it’s little window, nestled in a bed of white foam. If you are concerned about keeping these in absolute tip-top condition, then I would highly recommend keeping the foam insert as it does offer a great amount of protection. I don’t keep the boxes, but they just about fit inside my storage bags I have from Lovehoney – although let me just make it clear. These are NOT fragile/brittle. If you drop one from a height onto a hard surface, then they will of course, break – however they will NOT break during use. You are perfectly safe. This particular dildo survived a fall from the bed onto my hardwood floor – so it’s all good.
So, that was a bit longer than I wanted it to be – Oh well – it’s my blog, my rules!
Anyway, so once you’ve taken this gorgeous piece of glass out of it’s packaging, your are presented with a solid dildo that is 9.5 inches of insertable length (240mm) and has a circumference of 4.5 inches (114mm) at it’s widest point at the tip, 3.5 inches (89mm) along the shaft and 4 inches (101mm) at it’s widest point on the twisted end.
The ‘realistic’ end features a somewhat realistic ‘glans’ and has pronounced ridges. The ‘Twisted’ end is an orgasmic spiral of glass that aims to tease as you slide it in an out. The shaft of the dildo is slightly curved, meaning it’s the perfect shape to stimulate the g-spot and the p-spot – making it the perfect couples toy or suitable for man or woman. It’s size is also not too intimidating, so it’s perfect for people of all experience.
How to use
One of the reasons glass is incredibly popular, is that as a toy – it’s completely versatile and it can be used in many different ways. The box labels them as ‘hand blown glass massagers’ – and using them as MASSAGERS (as in using them with some massage oil and using it to stroke and caress the skin) is fantastic. In fact, as I write this review, I have the No. 57 in my hand and I’m using it to massage my neck and shoulders (as I slept awkwardly) and it feels REALLY good! Combine that with some soft music and candlelight, in can lead on to some very stimulating activities!
You can also experiment with temperature play (and this, is my absolute favourite part) to really experience some new and interesting sensations. Straight out of the box, the dildo is already quite ‘cool’ and it feels incredibly tingly in use. You can enhance that even further by placing it in the fridge for about half an hour before use. Now you are all grown ups, and I don’t really like telling people what to do – but you’d be surprised at the amount of people I find asking whether it’s OK to put it into the freezer, rather than the fridge, to make it even colder. This is quite possibly the WORST thing you can do. Why? Well have a look at this picture and see if you can work out why:
Got it? Good – so make sure you NEVER put it in the freezer – and if you must ignore my warning, then at least make sure you let it ‘warm up’ just ever so slightly before you go and start sticking it in places.
On the flip side, you can go for a more realistic experience by warming it up in some warm water (never use boiling/scalding). I have to say, as winter approaches, that warmth feels even better!
So how does this dildo feel in use? Well, in short – pretty damn good! The ‘realistic’ end is really easy to insert, and the pronounced ridges around the ‘glans’ feel really nice and as it’s glass, the weight of the dildo leaves you feeling really nice and full, and this is enhanced as you thrust with it. The curve meant that as I thrusted, it was hitting all the right spots and it had me trembling at the knees in no time.
The twisted end was no doubt, my favourite. The spiral adds a nice kick as you insert, but I actually found (in an really odd way) that twisting the dildo around sent me into a frenzy. I’m not quite sure why, but it just felt really good! It was at this point I wished that the spiral texture actually went further up the shaft. This is where I prefer the No. 55 – as this is textured through the WHOLE dildo. Whilst this dildo doesn’t feel unpleasant – the lack of texture in the middle does just feel a little bit boring. But it’s length and weight kind of makes me think it’s not so much of an issue, as it does leave me feeling full and it’s got enough length to really thrust without fear of going to far and losing it!
Clean-up and Maintenance
We’ve covered this plenty of times, but if this is your first glass dildo review you’ve read here then you need to know that clean-up is so incredibly simple, it’s almost criminal. As Glass is totally non-porous, you can use ANY lube with it, and you can clean it anyway you like – soap and water in the sink? Check! Toy cleaner and a soft cloth? Check! In the Dishwasher? Check! (Yes, you really can clean these in the dishwasher – just perhaps don’t wash them along with your crockery?).
As I mentioned earlier, these are resilient pieces, and can be comfortably stored in just a little storage bag – but for added piece of mind, you can always keep the foam padding – but I have a few of these floating around a box in just storage bags for a while now, and nothing has chipped/cracked/smashed – so I think you’ll be fine!
Summary
So yeah, I really love glass dildo’s. Based on the ones that I have, I think this one sits somewhere in the middle. It’s got a great length but the texture is a bit boring after a while. The other double-ended dildo I have is far more exciting – the texture and curves are much more pronounced. However, I do know there are a fair few people out there who aren’t really big on ‘texture’ so I think this would be a decent compromise.
My one minor complaint, is that it’s not quite the colour they make it look on the box – It also doesn’t photograph well either (hence why it looks almost clear). Don’t get me wrong, against a white background, there is a more pronounced ‘pink colour’ but it doesn’t look anywhere as deep as vibrant as the packaging makes it looks. Is that really a problem? Well I guess not, I think the subtle pink works well enough – but some people may be a bit… ‘funny’… about that – so it’s at least worth a mention.
