I was contacted by the lovely folk over at Belle De Soir, who asked if I would kindly review some new Sliquid products they were planning to stock. As I have never tried anything by Sliquid before, I was of course happy to accept the challenge.
I received 4 products to try: Ride Rub Stroke Oil, Ride Razor Body Shave Cream, Ride Bodyworx Rock Delay Spray and Ride Bodyworx Silicone Lubricant. The remaining reviews will be coming over the next week or so. Today, I am happy to present my thoughts and findings on the first of these products: the Rub Oil.
I’ve used products that have been specifically marketed as masturbation lubes – however these have all been cream style lubricants that become slicker as they warm up. This is the first ‘masturbation’ oil that I have tried, and needless to say I was very intrigued. So how did we get on? Well let’s find out, shall we?
But first, Why Sliquid?
Sliquid is formulated to be entirely sugar and sugar derivative free (glycerin), and with sparse amounts of only the safest ingredients, making it the cleanest, most natural lubricant on the market. Previously, most lubricants you would find containted glycerin, and in some people, use of these lubricants can lead to UTI (Urinary Tract) or Yeast infections. They are also paraben free. Parabens are a common preservative that are many in many products throughout the world. Studies into the effects of parabens on the body have shown that women who have developed breast cancer, have higher levels of parabens in their bodies. Whilst it’s not conclusive that the parabens are the cause, Sliquid take the approach of “better to be safe, than sorry” and ensure all their products are free of this preservative.
First Impressions
As this is marketed as a male masturbation oil, the packaging is very ‘masculine’ and features a ‘cowboy’ motif which is relatively tasteful. The oil is made from a combination of natural nut and seed oils, blended with Silicone (so this makes it unsuitable for use with latex condoms or silicone sex toys). Like other products in the Sliquid range, this is also Glycerin and Paraben free and can be used as both a masturbation oil, or as a massage oil.
The oil inside has the typical consistency of a massage oil, and a little bit goes a long way. There is little odour, and is relatively tasteless, so should you happen to get any in your mouth, it’s not the end of the world.
In Use
When using a lube like this, I always believe ‘less is more’ – this doesn’t absorb as quickly as, say, a water-based lube – so if you over-do it, you are going to have a real mess (not a good one) on your hands. Apply just a couple of drops to your hand and then apply to the penis. If you need more, then apply just a drop at a time until you’ve found the consistency you are happy with. Now, this stroke oil doesn’t produce a slipperiness like regular lubricant does – it’s something slightly different. It feels… smoother.
When I’ve used the oil, I’ve found that I can’t ‘move’ as quickly as I normally do with regular lube – and for me, this is a good thing – as it allows me to take the time to really enjoy what I’m doing. Sometimes, it’s over too quickly, or I have to reapply because things have dried out. Nothing like that happened here. I have to be slower, softer with my movements which has lead to heightened sensitivity – which leads to bigger and better orgasms.
The most important thing for me, is that even after it’s absorbed – it doesn’t feel overly greasy – I have to say, my hands and skin ‘elsewhere’ felt softer and smoother, like they had been thoroughly moisturised. This will be down to the Sweet Almond Oil (which is used a lot in cosmetic products because of it’s moisturising effects). I would throughly recommend washing your hands throughly after use, because once you’ve got a good coating on your hands, it can be VERY slippery.
As a massage oil, it’s got a great consistency, but for me, scent plays an important part in the overall sensation, and as this doesn’t have a smell, it’s really missing something. However, if scent is not an important factor, then as an actual oil, it works really well too.
Summary
I really liked this oil. If you really like things to be wet and wild during a session, this isn’t for you. However if you want a slippery but refined session, and have the time to really lay back, relax and enjoy every stroke – then this could be right up your street. It’s also not tested on animals and is packed full of good stuff and should last a fair while (I’ve had it for a couple of weeks and I’ve barely used 1/16th of the bottle (just a few drops will do it!).
