I want to first apologise for the lack of activity on the blog. I sadly don’t blog full time, and as I work in retail to help pay the bills, things tend to get a little hectic as we get closer to Christmas.
I am doing my best to rectify, and I am bringing you a couple of reviews today that are long overdue – so please accept my apologies (both readers and the companies I am currently owing reviews for!). There is still so much to be done so let’s just get straight on with it, shall we?
So a couple of months back, I was contacted by Lovehoney who asked if I would be interested in road-testing one of their new products – they had been working away behind the scenes on a brand new own-brand range of luxury sex toys. I’m never normally one to turn down and offer, and this was no exception. And last month, the range finally went live.
Lovehoney have worked extremely hard to create a range of products that their customers really want. With over 122,000 product reviews written on the Lovehoney site, they have a wealth of information that would help them create the perfect line of pleasure products.
The product that we would be testing was the Wand Vibrator. As i’ve mentioned previously on the blog, Wand vibrators are great for EVERY body – regardless of your sexual orientation and gender. We’ve had great fun with the LELO Smart Wand, the incredible Doxy Massager and got tingly with the Nalone Electro Wand… so how would this fair against those? Well let’s read on and find out..
I was sent this product free of charge in exchange for my honest review. All experience noted from here on are 100% my own genuine thoughts and experiences.
First Impressions
Unlike the regular Lovehoney branded products which feature simple, plain boxes – the packaging for the Desire range is a little bit different. The outer box has a sleek black and purple design, which still features a simple design, but the colouring and feel of the box already transform this to the next level in terms of packaging. As you open the box to get inside, you are greeted with a gorgeous little zip storage case – Lovehoney have really covered everything.
As you unzip the case, you’ll find the toy (in this case, the wand) on one side, held in place by little elastic loops. On the other side, a little mesh section holds the USB charging cable. And there is still space in there to store a couple of other items – so this makes it perfect for those weekends away when you don’t want to take your entire arsenal of sex toys away with you.
The wand itself is modest in size – coming in at a reasonable 9 inches in length. The base of the wand bulges outward, giving the whole wand an ‘hour glass’ figure, but one this is still really comfortable to hold. It has a flexible next and a circumference of 6.25 inches around the head – that only makes it a little but smaller than the Smart Wand, however this does mean that as yet, there are no attachments that would be compatible with it.
The Wand is waterproof, coated in soft, luxurious silicone and is rechargeable via USB. It takes approximately 2 hours to fully charge, which then gives you up to an hour of playtime. It features 8 vibration patterns and 12 speeds and is operated by 3 buttons sunken into the silicone on the handle. Overall, it’s a beautiful looking product and already I was besotted with it, and I couldn’t wait to give it a try.
In Use
Wand vibrators are one of those things that some people can find intimidating – especially when you have to plug them into the wall, and then they rattle into life sounding like a power tool – it’s not difficult to see why some people are still so unsure of them. But no other vibrator has ever left me as breathless and confused as a magic wand. The orgasms they can product are powerful and effortless, at least they are where I am concerned.
Initially, when I first turned on the Desire Wand, I was actually quite surprised at how powerful it was, compared to it’s size. Now let’s just get this right out there at the beginning – it’s nowhere near as powerful as any mains powered wand, or even the Smart Wand – but that’s to be expected as it’s at least half the size of those. But there is still a powerful punch here, one that I was not expecting.
When you first turn it on, at it’s lowest speed it has a good, firm rumble. As you start to increase the speed, the rumble starts to fade out to become more ‘buzzy’ but it’s buzzy in the same way the Doxy and LELO become ‘buzzy’ when they are on their highest settings. Normally, buzzy would annoy me, but somehow, here – it just works.
So my first test was to see how long it would take for the wand to bring me to orgasm, just by using it to stimulate the penis. So far, both the Doxy and the Smart Wand have achieved this in under 5 minutes – but as this wand is not as powerful as those, I was expecting this to take a little bit longer. However, I took myself to the bedroom where it was quiet and lay on the bed. Whilst completely soft, I placed the head of the wand on the underside of my penis and switched it on and started the clock.
On it’s lowest rumble, it took about 30 seconds before my body started to react favourably to the vibrations. As I started to increase the speed setting by setting, things got interesting pretty quickly. By the time I was half way through the settings I was at full mast. The vibrations penetrated surprisingly deeply and felt just as good. As my breathing became shallower and my body started to twitch, I knew what was coming.
As I pushed it to the higher speeds, my cock was twitching uncontrollably and as I pressed the head of the wand harder against the frenulum, I felt my entire body lurch and I came hard. And a lot. As I fumbled around for my phone to see how long it too – I dropped the wand and my chest was rising and falling like I had just been running a marathon. I look at the stopwatch – 6 minutes. Well bugger me. I didn’t expect it to be as quick as that. I am impressed.
The patterns are a nice touch, although I always seem to find myself going back to the same one over and over. However you have a constant setting, Slow, medium and fast pulse setting and 3 other random pulsing and buzzing patterns. The other patterns are nice to tease with, but I always go back to the constant setting because to me, that’s what feels the best.
When used for massage, well again, it works pretty well. The silicone glides over the skin with relatively little drag, but I would always recommend using a little bit of lube to make things a little slipperier. So for the most part, I actually do really quite like this toy.
Clean-up and Maintenance
The wand is completely waterproof, so not only does this mean you can take it in the bath or shower for some aquatic fun, it makes it super easy to clean. A spritz of toy cleaner and a good rinse is all that’s needed here. You can then just pop it back into it’s storage case – simple. When running low, the lights around the buttons will start to flash to let you know it needs charging – which I always think is a nice, helpful feature.
Summary
The Desire Wand has lots of potential. It’s smaller size and smaller price tag should appeal to the majority of consumers, and I think it’s a great entry level wand. It’s no where near as intimidating as the larger, mains powered versions – but it still packs a good amount of deep, rumbly vibrations. If you’ve ever considered the Smart Wand but thought that was too expensive, well I think this is a fairly decent substitute.
I also think you are getting a really good deal here – the sturdy storage case alone is just a fantastic addition. I think Lovehoney have got it extremely right here – it’s luxury but without the ‘luxury’ price tag.
